Shawn "Bean" Martin, E-RYT 500, YACEP, has been a group fitness, yoga, and pilates teacher for ten years. Over those ten years, Mr. Bean has worn many hats. From not only teaching classes but also designing new classes, training others in how to teach, and coaching practitioners one-on-one. He also has insight into how yoga and fitnesses studios operate and how those communities thrive.
Shawn has a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Dallas. He also graduated from Sunstone Academy through their RYS 500 program. He would later go on to run Sunstone Academy for a few years. He is also pursuing NASM CPT and Precision Nutrition L1 certifications.
Shawn has been involved in fitness activities throughout his life. He achieved the level of black belt in Tae Kwon Do while in middle school, played football and ran track in high school, and played rugby in college. After college, Shawn became a runner (even completing two marathons) and a rugby referee. His experiences in all of these activities has served him will through all parts of his life.
Shawn is a firm believer that age is just a number - we get "old" when we stop moving. His focus is on helping clients move well first and then move often. It is important to not focus on what we can not do and instead emphasize what we can do. Yoga is a practice, not an instagram photo. You don't have to move fast, just keep moving. He is heavily influenced by the works of Dan John, Tim Anderson, and Gray Cook, as well as through his friendship with Brandon Hartsell, CEO of SunstoneFIT.
Shawn lives in North Dallas with his wife, Dr. Sarah, and their pets Eowyn (dog) and Ruby (cat.) When not doing fitness activities, he enjoys watching Harry Potter movies, board games, and "dad" jokes.
